Full course description
Stress can have a large impact on one’s physical, emotional, and cognitive health. Coping with stress can be a difficult task as well. This workshop discusses the impact stress can have on one’s health as well as how to better manage stress. This workshop first examines the impact stress can have on one’s physical health, emotional health, and cognitive health. It highlights ways that stress can manifest and what to look for to determine the effects of stress. This workshop then discusses responses to stress: fight, flight, or freeze and then participants engage in exercises that helps determine positive stress and negative stress. The workshop also identifies some key stressors for teens as well as the difference between chronic and acute stress. The next part of this workshop focuses on how to manage stress. The importance of self-care is introduced, and strategies of self-care are examined. Participants begin to identify potential barriers of prioritizing their own self-care and obstacles for stress management. Lastly, participants are tasked with completing a self-care plan in order to examine what they can do to help mitigate the effects of stress.
Target Audience: In-School Youth, Out-of-School Youth
