Being aware of one’s emotional intelligence is becoming more and more popular. In the workplace, having a high emotional intelligence can lead to better performance. This workshop addresses why it is important to understand one’s emotions and the emotions of others as well as discussing ways in which emotions can be managed. This workshop first defines emotional intelligence and emotional awareness and then highlights the five characteristics of emotional intelligence: self-awareness, self-regulation, social skills, empathy, and motivation. Participants will engage in various activities, ranging from identifying their current emotional intelligence to brainstorming how to enhance their emotional intelligence. By the end of this workshop, participants will have a better understanding of what emotional intelligence is, why it is important, and how they can improve their own emotional intelligence.
Target Audience: In-School Youth, Out-of-School Youth
Essential Questions: By completion of this workshop, participants should be able to answer the questions:
· Why is it important to understand my emotions and the emotions of others?
· How can I manage my emotions, so I perform better in the workplace?
